Too bad I won't get to try this. You have a Mac OSX version so you DO have a unix-like port, but you did not release a Linux version so it was nice seeing this on Slashdot (a site full of Linux users) but I won't get to try it.

What do you use that compiles for both Windows and OSX yet doesn't for Linux?

Torque Game Engine from Garage Games. Maybe next year we'll do just a Linux game for April Fools.
To be honest we just didn't take the time to do a Linux port this year. Perhaps we'll release it in, like, 6 months and make it all buggy. As a late April Fool's joke. You know, like how so very many games get ported late and badly to both Linux and Mac OS.
:)

Well, thanks for releasing a Mac version, anyway!

The Linux version should feature no money. Instead, the gold should be shared freely between all the news and goldfarmers alike. Everyone should be able to examine the shape, mass, density and smell of gold freely, and they should be given the right to make stuff out of gold if they want to.

AC: does that mean the only way to make money with the Linux version is to sell support services?
:P

Congrats, you've been /.'d!
Which is why, of course, this post is gaining so much pro-Linux cruft. I wonder if Torque engine games run under WINE these days? I suspect they do.

The /. effect also known as a DDOS attack I believe only the good kind :)

I think the /. effect can officially be called the 'OH MY GOD WHERE'D MY BANDWIDTH GO!!' effect, or OMG-WMBG effect. For a while there we thought our site was under an actual attack, but apparently it was just our bandwidth choking out a wee bit.
Torque runs fine under WINE ( or so I have heard ). In fact, I did some digging and it looks like it even runs on straight up Linux. Anyone want to volunteer to do a Linux port?
As to source code, you can get all of it from www.garagegames.com , we used and reused a lot of stuff from the forums and demo kits.

Yeah, I know that you can compile Torque engine projects for Linux, I've purchased a couple. Perhaps I could work with you to port Fool's Gold. First, I have to get my new computer up and running.

Nice critics on the current state of affairs in both the virtual worlds and the real virtualized world.
Haven't looked into the game yet but I will give it a try soon.
How about a Linux version, by the way?
